Here is a list of some great songs I've recently discovered:
Ivan & Alyosha "Easy To Love"
Dawes "Love is all I Am"
Dr. Dog "Shadow People"
Fanfarlo "I'm a Pilot"
Frightened Rabbit "Swim Until You Can't See Land"
Joe Pug "Hymn 101"
Use google to find them. They're all good ones.

My Nightcap
I Cooked Up Two Yummy Dinners
I love garlic and so I couldn't wait to cook 44-clove soup. This is what a bowl of 44 cloves of garlic looks like...most are roasted.
Stir together with chopped onion and chicken broth and fresh thyme.
After it's cooked, you puree with a bit of cream and that's it. I thought it was a bit thin, so maybe I'd reduce the chicken broth next time. I definitely will leave the parmesan out next time. It sinks to the bottom in a clump. Besides that, I like the subtle and smooth flavor of the soup, it doesn't need parmesan at all. This soup was really nice, I'd definitely rather have this on a sick day than chicken soup.
The green flecks are bits of thyme.
So I cooked beans in my slow cooker again. I swear I will make something better some day, but for now...beans again. Gigantic lima beans to be precise.
The beans were amazing though. Check out the recipe here.
It's got a spicy kick to it. I loved it, but it might be a bit much for some people. You have to taste it as you go. I almost left the breadcrumbs off, but you really can't--it's essential because otherwise, the meal would have too soft a texture. The breadcrumbs add a nice crunch. I used more than 2/3 cup chard...maybe a little more than 1 cup.
It isn't the most photogenic dinner, but it is really tasty. It's going into my cooking rotation. If you have leftover cilantro and queso fresco from making this you can use them in soft tacos later in the week--that's my plan, but I'm not sure I'll even finish eating these beans this week.

I Upgraded
I'm sad to say goodbye to my old Apple....it's cute and white and I remember the days when the battery lasted 6 to 7 hours....but 5 years later, I needed to invest in some new technology:
It's so pretty. I actually hate getting a new computer or a new phone or new anything where I have to learn how to use it again. But once I get past that, I'm sure I'll love it--no more old operating system which websites were no longer supporting. Even iTunes quit on my machine last year. I could have gotten the same quality of laptop for a couple hundred less, but HP instead of Sony...but they were hideously ugly. All the HP's had swirls or some checkers pattern on them....they were looking like snowboards. The track pad was reflective like a mirror. Who is buying those? I couldn't imagine anyone over 10 wanting that. Well, this Sony better last me at least 5 years too.

Who do You Think You Are
Do you watch that show on NBC. I kind of got into it and I may have signed up on Ancestry.com for the 2 week free trial. You know what, that website is cool. I saw digital copies of census records and even the prisoner of war record of an ancestor in the civil war. Here's what two weeks got me:
My Grandpa Ibarreta's family line ended at my great-grandma since she emigrated from Spain. There wasn't much that I found there. I didn't have time to try too hard though.
My Grandma Ibarreta's mom, Bertha Frost, was the daughter of Martha Jane Inman. Martha's grandpa, Henry Inman was a POW during the Civil War. He was a Corporal from Tenn Infantry, fighting for the confederates. He was captured on November 27, 1863 and was discharged from Rock Isle on 12/12/63. I'm a little confused about why it was such a short time between capture and discharge...but that's what the record said. Henry's grandpa, Abednego Inman, was born in England and fought in the American Revolution as a Patriot. He became the Jury Foreman of the first Grand Jury of Jefferson County, Tennessee in 1793. He's buried at the cemetary at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Henry Inman is burried in Inman Cemetery in Possom Hollow, Alabama. On Martha Jane's other side, the people emigrated from Ireland and Scotland.
Through my Grandpa Kell's mom, Clara, I was able to trace back to the southern states in the 1700's. I could have gone further, but takes more time than I had on the free trial period.
My Grandma Kell's mom, Laura Woodworth's family I traced back to Boston and Plymouth, MA in the 1600's. From there I went back to England in the 1300's.
It was really fun seeing where all the trails led. I was really surprised to see that most of my family were very early Americans. Well, early for the European kind.

Greenberg
S and I made a trip to the Angelika Theater in Soho. We mostly hate that theater. The lobby is kind of cool with a cafe and seating, but when your movie is called on the bullhorn you better run for those velvet ropes and be careful...people will run right over you. It is cutthroat at the Angelika.
We saw Greenberg. I liked it, but it isn't something I would recommend anyone go and see.

Summer in March
We got seventy degree days last week...kinda makes up for the snowy winter. I went to my favorite warm weather hang-out, Shake Shack. It's located in Madison Square Park, which is a gorgeous place to sit and have lunch. Views of the Empire State Building to the North.
A place to sit and eat your awesome burger and fries and lemonade. You look to the West....and there is the historic flatiron building.

How I Spent my Rainy Day
So the weather was crap on Saturday. When it rains in New York, it RAINS. I met my friend Jenn for lunch at Co. I love this place. The pizza is a little expensive, but it's one of my favorites. I stick to the Margherita, just tomato sauce, basil and yummy, salty, buffalo mozzarella. The crust is what really makes this great, though. I like the atmosphere of the place, also...it's in Chelsea and it has big windows so you can see out onto the street and the place is casual with friendly service. The pizzas are small so we also split a salad which was really good, it had radicchio, sliced mushrooms, chunks of creamy taleggio cheese, and olive oil and vinegar dressing.
Then, we walked a couple blocks south to Billy's for cupcakes. I had a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and wolfed it down before I could think to take a photo. Well, we were already pretty soaked from our two block walk from Co. so we decided it wouldn't hurt to walk the 15 minutes to Stumptown coffee. Stumptown is located in the Ace hotel in midtown; both the hotel and the coffee place are based in Portland, OR. I wanted to check it out because I saw the pictures and thought the place was beautiful. You can see more, and better, pictures here.
And my coffee...just what I needed.
We crushed ourselves into a couple of seats in the lobby for a bit.
And then I was starting to get cold and feel really tired of being wet so I headed home. Here I am on the subway with the water wicked almost up to my knee. It was great to get home and throw those jeans onto the radiator and wrap up in sweatpants for the rest of the day. Ah, Saturday, you're the best.

Pommes Frites
That's what they call french fries in Europe...and at a teeny tiny place in the East Village. We turned a Saturday into a train ride down there to try them (and maybe got donuts at donut plant afterward; heck, if you are all the way down in that neighborhood anyway).
The fries are good. I barely had time to take a picture before they were gone. They come in a paper cone. And if you are lucky enough to get one of the two tables they have there, the tables have holes in them so you can stand your cone up. They have maybe 20 different sauces to choose from and they let you sample them. I liked wasabi mayo.

Ski Trip
Here I am, standing. It's my best ski move.
S and I took a little ride up to Hunter Mountain, conveniently just two days before my last CPA exam! Honestly though, I needed the break. We'll see soon enough when I get my scores what the damage was (eek). I have boarded before, but decided to give skiing a try. I liked it better, except for the part where you can't get up after falling. It's seriously impossible. It was a pretty fun day. We got up there early and that was the only way to go. At about 9 am, the lines were hours long. It was like all of Manhattan was there for the day. The food was totally gross though. Next time, we bringin' sandwiches.
